Measuring and adjusting particle accelerators

The sigma3D team combines comprehensive engineering knowledge with over 20 years of experience - including numerous successful measurement projects for accelerator facilities. Using state-of-the-art mobile laser measurement technology, we measure and position magnets and other components for you with the highest precision.

Flexible measurement of all plant elements

Basically: Whether magnets, cryostats, diagnostic chambers - we can measure every element of your particle accelerator!

Network measurements:

Age-related subsidence of an existing plant can be easily corrected mechanically after a general check-up with fixed references - so-called fiducials.

If individual parts of the particle accelerator need to be measured regularly, we can also create a reference network within the facility for uncomplicated calibration.

  • Depending on the size with a combination of laser tracker and precision level for maximum accuracy

Adjustment of system components

In the case of a new installation, we enable you to fit directly into the plant neighborhood and thus reduce preparation time by using electronic components. With the data received, you can easily determine the position and orientation again and again later.

  • Geometric adjustment of magnets and other components
  • Taking into account the tolerances in position and orientation
  • Adjustment via reference points (fiducials) or geometries of the component in relation to the beam axis

In addition, we carry out all individual local measurements for each setup of your experiments.

Most modern and high-precision measuring technology

The measurements at your particle accelerator are always carried out with a laser tracker - currently the most modern and fastest measurement technology.

The advantages of this measuring instrument are numerous: With the laser tracker, we can carry out extremely precise measurements even over long distances, and we are highly flexible thanks to various adapters. Especially for measuring accelerators, we benefit from a high measuring frequency combined with direct digital data output. This gives us immediate feedback and allows us to make adjustments very quickly and easily.

Well-rehearsed team for efficient measurement projects

Our team has extensive experience in surveying particle accelerators. Basically, we need less time for a pure actual measurement than for an adjustment. The effort for the latter depends on the scope of the work and the number of components.

Since each facility is highly individual, we usually arrange an on-site appointment with you in advance. This way, our staff can directly identify any problems and avoid them during the later measurement. Because: We know that with the short shutdown times of an accelerator, fast and smooth execution is extremely important for you.
